VOCAT Funded Psychological Support

Supporting Your Healing After Crime‑Related Trauma

Carolan Psychology provides trauma‑informed psychological therapy to individuals who have experienced crime and are eligible for funding through the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT). We offer confidential, evidence‑based support via secure telehealth for clients across Victoria.

Who Is Eligible for VOCAT‑Funded Therapy

You may be able to access psychological services through VOCAT if:

  • You have experienced a violent crime in Victoria
  • You have an approved VOCAT award that includes funding for counselling or psychological treatment
  • Your lawyer or support worker has assisted you in applying for VOCAT funding
  • You have documentation confirming your award and allocated counselling hours

If you’re unsure about your eligibility or award details, we can help you understand what information is needed to begin therapy.

What VOCAT Funding Covers

VOCAT funding can support a range of psychological services, including:

  • Trauma‑focused therapy for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties
  • Support for emotional regulation, safety, and recovery
  • Psychoeducation about trauma, coping, and wellbeing
  • Medico‑legal style reporting when required by VOCAT or your legal representative
  • Collaboration with lawyers, case managers, and other supports (with your consent)

Sessions are delivered via secure telehealth, providing accessible care regardless of location, mobility, or safety considerations.

Our Approach to VOCAT‑Funded Therapy

We understand that seeking support after a crime can feel overwhelming. Our approach is:

  • Trauma‑informed, prioritising safety, choice, and empowerment
  • Evidence‑based, drawing on therapies such as CBT, trauma‑focused CBT, ACT, and grounding‑based interventions
  • Sensitive to legal processes, ensuring documentation is clear, accurate, and aligned with VOCAT expectations
  • Collaborative, working with your legal team where appropriate
  • Respectful and non‑judgemental, recognising the courage it takes to seek help

We tailor therapy to your pace, your goals, and your recovery needs.

How to Access VOCAT‑Funded Therapy

To begin therapy with Carolan Psychology under VOCAT, you will need:

  1. A VOCAT award that includes funding for counselling or psychological services
  2. Your award documentation or confirmation from your lawyer
  3. Contact details for your legal representative (if applicable)

If you’re unsure whether your award includes counselling, we can help you clarify this with your lawyer or VOCAT.
